Hello, my name is Michael!

I am an aspiring programmer of great things.

About Me

I earned my Associate of Applied Science Degree at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College on May 2020, majoring in Information Technology: Computer Programming and Development (check it out here).

Currently, I study Computer Science at Eastern Connecticut State University. I expect to receive my Bachelor of Science degree on May 2022.

Afterwards, I'll be looking to find a well-paying job that will allow me to single-handedly fund my parents retirement by 2025. This is my biggest goal, and I'm working towards it.

Notable Work

Golden Door Scholars
, Tech Fellow

June 2020 - August 2020

As a Tech Fellow at Golden Door Scholars, I learned soft and hard skills, and development & preperation for the corporate/professional world.

  • Hard Skills
Hard skills manifested themselves through our course-load that included advanced Excel, HTML, Python, and Version Control (Git).

Check out various projects I worked on during the fellowship, located in my Github.
  • Soft Skills
Soft skills manifested themselves through daily morning stand-ups, daily end-of-day discussions, professional development that included networking through LinkedIn, writing an effective résumé, mock interviews with real recruiters, and guest speakers.

Public speaking has been a great fear of mine, and this fellowship forced me to throw that out of the window. In this respect, I've certainly grown.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College
, Programmer Analyst Intern

August 2019 - June 2020

As a Programmer Analyst for RCCC, I've been tasked with meeting project goals and deadlines in a professional environment.

Often times, there are functions and tasks asked of me that I must learn how to do on my own.

  • Web Apps
I aided in the design of schemas and form submission for documentation of student visits with career coaches.

The career coaches could add and edit visits, search visits by name, student ID, or through student demographic data, and add categories & fields to the student visit form.
  • Automation
I wrote scripts that automated the updating of Rowan-Cabarrus' yearly catalog. The process will create a blank database file based on the year (ex: '2021-2022.psql'), then sets up the schemas on that blank databse file.

Finally, the process will import the previous years' records into the new database file while keeping all integral relationships intact. Furthermore, there is a front-end administrative side that allows adding, editing, and removing records as needed.
  • Database Management
I wrote Python scripts that automated backing up of a database and deletion of back-up files older than 30 days.

In the end, we ended up using different scripts for backing up the database, but the scripts can be found on my Github.
  • Development Tools
In order to accomplish these server-side functions, I had to become familiar with the use of production-side utilities such as Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), Sourcetree (Git UI), VS Code, Virtualenv, Materialize and Sass, Bootstrap, Gulp.

I'll admit, there is a lot for me to learn, but I believe I've demonstrated that I have the capacity to do so.

Publix Supermarkets
, Deli Clerk

November 2017 - Current

As a Deli Clerk at Publix, I am capable of effective team communication, premier customer service, and multitasking.

There are times when "wild" customers show up to the Deli counter and wreak havic. In these circumstances, I have handled those customers in a professional and calm manner to best address their needs while also diffusing the situation.

There isn't any other choice in these certain circumstances since some customers prefer to release their pent-up anger and frustration at innocent Deli Clerks.
